Guadalajara is definitely the shopping capital of Mexico. Modern malls can be located in every area of the city. Tlaquepaque and Tonalá are two incomparable malls located within the city limits of Guadalajara. Mexico’s largest ‘under roof’ market is the ‘Mercado Libertad’ which can be found downtown located at the eastern end of the Centro Histórico.
Tlaquepaque
This is a must place to visit while in Guadalajara. The streets in the shopping area have been closed off to traffic so that you can stroll and shop at a leisurely pace. Specialty shops are everywhere you look. Over three hundred charming shops will make your shopping experience, in this traffic free environment, a real pleasure.
Tonalá
Tonalá is located a few minutes from Tlaquepaque. It’s a bit smaller place that offers a different shopping experience. Tonalá is a village of craftsmen is not glitzy as Tlaquepaque, this is more a city of ceramics, pottery and some of the finest dinnerware sold in Mexico. About six thousand artisans live in Tonalá.
